MEP Coordinator Job Overview
The MEP Coordinator is responsible for overseeing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems throughout the construction process. This full-time position in Denver, CO ensures that all MEP-related activities are coordinated efficiently and align with project goals, company policies, and industry standards. The MEP Coordinator plays a crucial role in facilitating effective communication among project stakeholders, maintaining compliance with safety regulations, and ensuring high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the company professionally and support strategic initiatives in all MEP coordination activities.
- Build and maintain positive, long-term relationships with internal teams, business partners, owners, design professionals, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Implement and execute company policies, procedures, and embrace a lean work culture to optimize project performance.
- Develop, maintain, and track start-up and commissioning schedules for MEP trades to ensure timely project delivery.
- Assist with material procurement and delivery of MEP items, ensuring that all components are in place for successful project completion.
- Update master schedules for MEP subcontractors and oversee permitting processes, including handling delegated and deferred permits as required by local regulations.
- Conduct constructability reviews of progress drawings, ensuring all designs are feasible and compliant with project requirements.
- Monitor and report on the performance of mechanical and electrical subcontractors, including weekly observation and compliance reports.
- Support the development and implementation of quality assurance plans for MEP trades, with regular inspections and specification compliance checks.
- Participate in pre-award meetings, weekly coordination meetings, and preconstruction efforts to align project goals and procurement plans.
- Review subcontract agreements, owner contracts, and manage MEP-related budgets, costs, and financials, reporting directly to the project manager.
- Provide on-site management of subcontractors when required and mentor direct reports to foster professional development.
- Assist with preplanning, production tracking, maintaining as-built drawings, and facilitating the 3D coordination drawing process.
- Monitor testing records and reports, prepare and review mechanical/electrical submittals, and coordinate third-party commissioning activities.
- Support the Integrated Project Delivery process and manage pricing and change orders for MEP trades.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a minimum of ten (10) years of field experience specific to mechanical and electrical systems.
- Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of general commercial construction experience with a strong focus on MEP systems.
- Proficiency with CMiC, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), and 3D model simulation software.
- Demonstrated ability to play a key role in the Integrated Project Delivery process and robust knowledge of design-build methodology.
- Basic knowledge of contract document review and comprehension.
