Medical Receptionist Job Overview
Petoskey Family Medicine is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our dynamic healthcare team. This part-time role is an essential part of the patient care experience, offering the opportunity to support both patients and medical professionals in a fast-paced, supportive environment. The position is part-time, scheduled for two days per week (Monday and Friday), totaling 18-20 hours weekly.
Key Responsibilities
- Answering multi-line phones promptly and courteously, directing calls as needed to appropriate staff members and departments.
- Performing electronic indexing of medical records into patient charts to ensure accurate and timely documentation, supporting high standards of patient care.
- Making reminder phone calls to patients for upcoming appointments and following up on scheduling as needed to maintain optimal appointment flow.
- Welcoming patients at check-in, verifying and updating personal and insurance information, and assisting with the patient check-out process to ensure a seamless visit experience.
- Scheduling appointments efficiently, managing calendar conflicts, and assisting with appointment rescheduling as requested by patients or medical staff.
- Collecting copayments and processing payments securely while maintaining patient confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information with care.
- Operating general office equipment, such as printers, copiers, and fax machines, to facilitate the daily workflow of the medical office.
- Providing coverage for coworkers during vacations or absences, as requested, to ensure uninterrupted patient service and office operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required for this Medical Receptionist position.
- At least one year of prior experience working in a medical office environment is a must, demonstrating familiarity with healthcare procedures and patient interactions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a busy office setting.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a professional and courteous demeanor in all interactions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations when handling patient information and records.
- Proficiency with basic office technology, including scheduling software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, is preferred.
