Medical Director – Primary Care Position Overview
The Medical Director – Primary Care (MD or DO) is a physician-led leadership position responsible for overseeing clinical operations within a primary care outpatient center. This full-time role is designed for a board-certified or board-eligible physician in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine. The Medical Director will work closely with a dedicated team to provide high-quality, value-based care primarily to a senior patient population, many of whom manage multiple chronic health conditions. This position is based in Cincinnati, OH, a city known for its vibrant healthcare community and supportive environment for medical professionals.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a clinical team, including primary care physicians (PCPs) and nurse practitioners (NPs), ensuring optimal patient outcomes and staff development.
- Oversee daily clinical operations, maintaining a small patient panel (60-90 patients) to ensure personalized, attentive care for each individual.
- Champion and implement value-based care initiatives, focusing on measurable improvements in patient health and satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, their families, and consulting in-house specialists such as cardiology and podiatry, supporting a holistic approach to healthcare.
- Participate in and promote continuous education and leadership development through programs such as PCP Black Belt Training, Medical Director and Center Operations, and Leadership Pathways.
- Monitor center financial performance, collaborate with operational teams to drive growth, and contribute to medical economics and sales initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and standards related to patient care and clinical operations.
Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution, with board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine (FM), Internal Medicine (IM), or Geriatric Medicine.
- At least one year of clinical experience in a geriatric or family practice setting.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing clinical teams preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with technology-driven care models.
- Ability to travel locally and occasionally regionally as needed.
