Medical Director, Primary Care (MD/DO) Job Description
The Medical Director, Primary Care (MD/DO) is a pivotal leadership position within our Health organization, responsible for overseeing clinical operations and guiding primary care providers (PCPs) across multiple clinics. This full-time role combines clinical practice with essential administrative leadership, offering an opportunity to impact patient care directly while driving primary care strategy and organizational initiatives. Based in Milwaukee, WI, the Medical Director, Primary Care (MD/DO) plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care and fostering a culture of continuous improvement throughout the healthcare network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and coach primary care providers and clinical staff across 3-5 clinics within the Milwaukee, WI market.
- Engage in a mix of administrative duties and, as needed, clinical practice to maintain close connections with patients and providers.
- Oversee clinical operations in collaboration with internal leadership, including working closely with Vice Presidents of Operations to ensure optimal clinic performance and quality outcomes.
- Contribute strategic direction on organizational-wide initiatives such as network development, specialty referrals, documentation and coding accuracy, quality improvement, HEDIS measures, utilization management, transitional care, case management, and clinical compliance.
- Participate in opening new clinics within the market, providing leadership and clinical support during the initial phases before transitioning to more administrative oversight as clinics establish stability and growth.
- Serve as a key leader in the launch and ongoing success of new markets, starting up to two months prior to market openings and helping to ensure seamless integration into the broader organization.
- Support continuous improvement by collaborating with the corporate team and leadership from other markets to share best practices and identify opportunities for organizational enhancement.
- Drive a culture aligned with the organization’s mission to transform primary care and deliver high-quality care to seniors, ensuring staff operate collaboratively to improve patient lives.
- Communicate the impact and value of the care model to both staff and the broader community, enhancing engagement and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree required.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine (IM), Family Medicine (FM), or Geriatrics (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and lead clinical teams effectively.
- 3-5 years of experience in value-based care (VBC) or managed care preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for effective leadership and collaboration.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the Milwaukee, WI market as necessary.
