Medical Coding Manager (CPC/RHIT/RHIA/CCS) - Summary
- Lead and manage a team of medical coders and auditors to deliver high-quality, compliant coding services for the Defense Health Agency.
- Serve as a key point of contact for project oversight, workflow optimization, and performance monitoring.
- Contribute to the professional development of team members and to the overall success of the organization’s healthcare mission.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct day-to-day activities of medical coding teams, including scheduling, oversight, and performance management.
- Lead both in-patient and out-patient coding projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all coding deliverables.
- Monitor and analyze productivity and quality metrics, implementing process improvements where necessary.
- Provide mentorship and continual professional training to support the growth of team members.
- Maintain adequate staffing levels, adjust assignments as needed, and ensure all work is properly documented and reported.
- Resolve personnel issues, system challenges, and address customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Coordinate deliverables across multiple contracts and deadlines, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
- Proactively identify process optimization opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a biological science.
- Five years of medical coding experience in both out-patient and in-patient settings.
- One year of experience as a medical coding auditor.
- Demonstrated experience leading a large team of medical coders, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
- Experience with the MHS Genesis system for medical coding.

- Possesses a recognized professional coding certification such as CPC, RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P.
