The Medical Billing Specialist plays a vital role in the revenue cycle process for healthcare providers, ensuring that all aspects of medical billing, claim submission, and payment processing are handled accurately and efficiently. This full-time position reports directly to the Office Manager and Billing Supervisor and serves as a critical liaison between patients, insurance companies, and the healthcare practice. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately entering patient data and verifying demographics to maintain up-to-date records.
- Posting insurance and patient payments with precision, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly for reconciliation.
- Timely submission of clean primary and secondary insurance claims, minimizing delays in payment and reducing claim rejections.
- Managing denials and overseeing the resubmission of claims as necessary, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Monitoring accounts receivable aging and following up on unpaid claims to maximize revenue collection.
- Communicating professionally with insurance companies to resolve claim issues, verify coverage, and appeal denials as needed.
- Serving as a point of contact for patient billing inquiries, providing clear and accurate information regarding statements and payments.
- Coordinating appeals and managing the process for claim reconsideration when necessary.
- Processing patient statements and handling requests for superbills in accordance with established protocols.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience in medical billing is preferred; prior experience in a private practice setting is a plus.
- Working knowledge of billing processes, including familiarity with ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT codes.
- Understanding of medical insurance, medical terminology, and the billing requirements of Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial health plans.
- Ability to analyze claims for resubmission and final adjudication.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with patients and insurance representatives.
Work Schedule
- This is a full-time role with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Some flexibility may be required based on business needs.

- Regular use of office equipment, including phones, computers, printers, copiers, and fax machines.
- Frequent use of the internet and various web browsers is necessary for daily tasks.
Physical Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending, stooping, or stretching.
- Frequent typing and computer use are necessary, along with regular operation of telephones and other office equipment.
