Medical Billing Specialist Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team at a leading internal medicine clinic. This full-time position plays a key role in ensuring accurate and efficient processing of patient billing, insurance claims, and related administrative tasks. The Medical Billing Specialist will collaborate closely with healthcare staff and contribute to the smooth operation of our billing department.
Key Responsibilities- Process patient and insurance payments promptly and accurately, ensuring proper documentation and reconciliation within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits prior to appointments and procedures.
- Submit insurance claims using appropriate codes, including CPT and ICD-10, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance providers and working appeals as necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date patient records within the EMR, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companies via phone and in person to resolve billing inquiries and scheduling issues.
- Utilize Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for documenting, tracking, and reporting billing and insurance activities.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to address scheduling difficulties and ensure patients are scheduled correctly.
- Minimum of 1-year experience in the medical field, particularly in billing or insurance roles.
- Solid understanding of healthcare insurance processes and medical billing practices.
- Proficiency with computers; experience with electronic medical record (EMR) platforms is preferred.
- Knowledge of CPT billing codes and ICD-10 codes is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interactions with patients and insurance providers.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly in managing sensitive patient data and financial records.
- Willingness to learn and adapt within a fast-paced healthcare environment.
