Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Overview
Coughran Medical Group is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a full-time position. This role is essential to supporting the operations of our busy, privately owned Family Practice clinic. As a Medical Assistant or LPN, you will be part of a patient-focused team committed to delivering high quality, value-based care. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patient charts and maintain accurate health records to ensure seamless clinical operations.
- Obtain clinical data from patients and their historians, accurately recording relevant health information.
- Communicate normal lab and test results to patients in a clear and professional manner.
- Manage prescription refills, schedule appointments, conduct patient outreach, and handle incoming phone calls efficiently.
- Triage patients based on medical urgency and coordinate appropriate care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Collect test samples and perform waived laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols.
- Maintain and update patient records, and follow up with patients as needed to support their care journey.
- Prepare exam rooms for patient visits and assist with ordering laboratory tests as directed by providers.
- Administer injections and immunizations safely and effectively according to medical orders.
- Explain common medical procedures to patients and assist in basic medical examinations, ensuring patient comfort and understanding.
- Utilize Accountable Care Organization (ACO) tools to help patients access high-value healthcare resources and services.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- Valid LPN License for LPN applicants.
- Proficient computer skills for electronic health record management and routine office tasks.
- General office skills, including the ability to process mail, faxes, forms, and other patient care documentation accurately.
- Professional phone etiquette and strong communication abilities.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology to support clinical documentation and patient care activities.
- Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills with a strong commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain schedules and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift, and carry materials or equipment as needed.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to file and retrieve information efficiently.
- Capacity to respond to patient and team questions in a tactful and professional manner.
- Willingness and ability to educate patients, families, and caregivers about relevant health situations and procedures.
- Commitment to adhering to established departmental standards and continuous quality improvement.
- Responsibility for maintaining required continuing education and timely renewal of licensure.
- Knowledge of value-based care models and quality initiatives preferred.
