Medical Assistant (MA) Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant (MA) to join our internal medicine and pediatric practice in Gastonia, NC. This full-time position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide exceptional patient care. As a Medical Assistant (MA), you will play a vital role in supporting physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure the highest quality of service for both adult and pediatric patients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for medical examinations and procedures by obtaining vital signs, updating medical histories, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and minor office procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and properly sterilized.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and clinical areas, ensuring compliance with infection control guidelines and safety protocols.
- Collect and process laboratory specimens accurately, including blood draws, urine samples, and other diagnostic tests as required.
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as EKGs and spirometry, following proper protocols and documenting results in the electronic medical record system.
- Administer immunizations and injections according to provider orders and office policy, ensuring proper documentation and patient education.
- Provide front office clerical support by answering and triaging phone calls, scheduling patient appointments, verifying insurance information, and processing referrals and prior authorizations as needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions, medical procedures, and clinical activities in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team to support smooth patient flow and a positive patient experience.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working in a clinical or healthcare setting, especially in internal medicine or pediatrics, is beneficial.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard office software.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
