Medical Assistant (MA) Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team at a primary care practice in Charlotte, NC. This full-time position offers the opportunity to support patient care and clinical operations in a dynamic healthcare environment. As a Medical Assistant (MA), you will work closely with both clinical and administrative staff to ensure the highest standard of care for our diverse patient population. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required for this role to meet the communication needs of our patients and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome patients to the practice, both in person and over the telephone, providing a positive first impression and exceptional customer service.
- Verify and record patient information by conducting interviews, updating medical histories, and confirming the purpose of each visit.
- Prepare patients for health care visits by directing or accompanying them to examination rooms and ensuring their comfort.
- Perform preliminary clinical assessments, including taking vital signs such as blood pressure, weight, and temperature, and reporting patient history summaries, vaccinations, and EKG results as needed.
- Collect test samples, assist with specimen processing, and prepare exam rooms for patient visits in accordance with infection control and clinical protocols.
- Maintain patient records by accurately documenting clinical findings and patient interactions in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Facilitate prescription refills, schedule patient appointments, and conduct patient outreach as directed by medical providers.
- Administer injections and immunizations, order laboratory tests, and explain common medical procedures to patients in a clear and compassionate manner.
- Educate patients by providing information about medications, diets, and care instructions and by answering any related questions.
- Utilize Accountable Care Organization (ACO) tools to assist patients in accessing high-value healthcare services and resources.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information by adhering to standards for diagnostic and procedure coding and maintaining compliance with legal regulations.
- Support inventory management by monitoring medical supplies, placing orders, and verifying receipts to keep exam rooms fully stocked.
- Participate in night rotation shifts as scheduled (two nights per week) to support extended practice hours.
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by following established procedures and collaborating with the care team.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification as a Medical Assistant (MA) preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required to support patient communication and care.
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems and proficiency with general computer skills preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a medical assistant or similar clinical support role is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and basic pharmacology is expected.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credentials are preferred but not required.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for employment.
- Strong professionalism, teamwork, and organizational skills are essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a focus on patient confidentiality, customer service, and attention to detail.
Work Environment & Schedule
This Medical Assistant (MA) position is full-time and based in Charlotte, NC. The role includes participation in a night rotation schedule, working two evenings per week to support patient care outside of standard office hours. Charlotte, NC, is a vibrant city known for its diverse community and excellent access to healthcare resources.
