The Medical Assistant (MA) plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of a primary care clinic. Working under the supervision of a physician, the Medical Assistant is responsible for a blend of administrative and clinical tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of the healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform administrative duties such as scheduling patient appointments and maintaining accurate medical records to ensure efficient clinic operations.
- Handle patient intake, including gathering and recording medical histories, to assist healthcare providers in patient assessment and treatment planning.
- Take and document vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, to support the physician during patient evaluations.
- Prepare patients for examination by providing guidance and ensuring comfort, as well as assisting with the organization of necessary medical instruments and supplies.
- Administer medications to patients as directed by the physician, following all relevant protocols and safety procedures.
- Participate in patient triage for annual physical exams and wellness visits, helping to prioritize patient care based on clinical need.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey information and actively listen to patients and team members.
- Strong attention to detail and comprehension of written materials, such as medical documentation and clinic policies.
- Proficiency in computer usage, with experience in medical software applications preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and pharmacology to facilitate accurate recordkeeping and patient care support.
- Knowledge of the eClinicalWorks database is a plus, enhancing the ability to manage electronic health records efficiently.
