Medical Assistant (MA) Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to join our full-time team at a family practice. The Medical Assistant (MA) will play a vital role in supporting physicians and providing high-quality patient care. The full-time Medical Assistant (MA) will work closely with healthcare professionals and patients to ensure smooth clinic operations and positive patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and other healthcare staff with patient examinations and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety at all times.
- Escort patients to examination rooms, record medical histories, and obtain and document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, venipunctures, administering injections, and other routine medical procedures under supervision as required.
- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail when handling patient records and entering data into electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Utilize knowledge of ICD-10 codes for accurate documentation and billing support.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacists regarding prescriptions and medication needs, and demonstrate a basic understanding of common prescribing medications.
- Support general clinic operations by maintaining a clean and organized work environment, following infection control protocols, and assisting with supply management.
- Utilize computers and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel to complete documentation and other administrative tasks efficiently.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized Medical Assistant training program.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Personable, friendly, and committed to providing excellent patient service.
- English language proficiency required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ICD-10 coding, EKGs, venipuncture, and administering injections.
- Experience taking patient vital signs and recording medical histories.
- Basic knowledge of medications and communication with pharmacists.
- Knowledge of nutrition is a plus, though not required.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time Medical Assistant (MA) position, which may include two evenings and some Saturday hours as part of the regular schedule to provide accessible patient care.
