As a Medical Assistant (MA), you will play a vital role in supporting clinical operations within a healthcare setting. This position is responsible for providing both administrative and clinical support to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring efficient and effective patient care. Medical Assistants serve as a critical link between patients and providers, helping to streamline processes and contribute to positive healthcare experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients, verify patient information, and assist with check-in and check-out procedures.
- Obtain and record vital signs, patient histories, and chief complaints accurately and confidentially.
- Prepare examination rooms by ensuring they are clean, stocked, and ready for patient visits.
- Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and minor procedures as needed.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, collect specimens, and prepare them for laboratory analysis according to established protocols.
- Administer medications and injections under the supervision of licensed providers, adhering to safety guidelines and documentation requirements.
- Schedule patient appointments, answer phone calls, and respond to patient inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR), ensuring all data is entered in compliance with privacy regulations.
- Educate patients on medication instructions, pre-visit preparations, and post-visit care as directed by providers.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and support daily operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Medical Assistant training program (MA certificate or diploma) preferred.
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related healthcare support role is advantageous.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact compassionately with patients and families.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and infection control standards.
Certifications
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is preferred but not always required, depending on the healthcare facility's policies.
- Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required or preferred.
