Medical Assistant (MA) Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant (MA) for a full-time position within a dynamic medicine and pediatrics practice. As a valued member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting physicians and delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves a blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities, ensuring smooth operations and positive patient experiences.
Responsibilities
- Room patients efficiently and ensure all patient information is accurately documented prior to physician consultations.
- Conduct comprehensive medication reconciliation to support patient safety and effective care management.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and procedures, providing necessary equipment and support as needed.
- Communicate test results and follow-up information to patients in a timely and compassionate manner.
- Perform point of care testing as directed, adhering to all clinical protocols and quality standards.
- Complete assigned quality metrics to support the practice's commitment to excellence in patient care.
- Process prior authorizations with insurance providers to ensure patients have timely access to necessary medications and treatments.
- Initiate and manage referrals to specialists or ancillary services as ordered by the physician.
- Handle prescription refills in accordance with provider instructions and practice guidelines.
- Provide professional telephone triage, addressing patient inquiries and directing concerns to the appropriate healthcare provider.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to accurately document patient information and follow clinical protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient interaction and collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
- Competency in performing basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and administering point of care tests.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is a plus.
