Medical Assistant (MA) Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to join our healthcare team. This full-time position is integral to supporting both clinical and administrative operations within the clinic. As a Medical Assistant, you will work closely with physicians and front desk associates to ensure the highest standard of patient care and efficient clinic flow. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced medical environment.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate smooth clinic patient flow by coordinating patient arrival and room assignments, and promptly informing physicians.
- Accompany and assist patients in the exam room, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
- Accurately obtain and record patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration, using both manual equipment and automated devices such as the Welch Allen Spot Vital Signs machine.
- Timely import vital sign results into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Assist physicians during medical examinations and procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Collect patient medical history as required by departmental protocols.
- Perform diagnostic and screening procedures, including but not limited to strep tests, flu tests, rapid COVID-19 tests, COVID PCR, HA1C, EKG, and spirometry, as directed by clinical staff.
- Explain test procedures to patients to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Administer vaccines to eligible patients under physician orders, following established protocols.
- Apply knowledge of medical terminology and medications to support patient care.
- Address patient concerns directly or in coordination with other healthcare facilities, and document all interactions in the EMR.
- Maintain, clean, and stock exam rooms, notifying supervisors of supply needs or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Front Desk Responsibilities
- Efficiently check in and check out patients, ensuring accuracy and a positive patient experience.
- Complete insurance verification and validate patient demographic information during appointment scheduling and check-in.
- Monitor and respond to messages from patients and clinical staff, facilitating effective communication within the clinic.
- Conduct patient outreach as necessary to support care coordination and follow-up.
- Answer incoming telephone calls, addressing inquiries or directing calls appropriately.
- Scan and electronically file incoming documents in a timely and organized manner.
- Collect co-pays and process payments, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming appearance of the waiting area and front desk to enhance patient comfort.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a recognized Medical Assistant (MA) training program preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is an advantage.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize duties in a busy clinical environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and common medications is desirable.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
