Medical Assistant (MA) Position Overview
Diaa Y. Mikhail, MD is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to provide vital clinical and administrative support in our busy clinic. This is a full-time position offering an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to expand their skills in both patient care and front desk operations. Working as a Medical Assistant (MA) at our Dundalk location, you will play a critical role in ensuring smooth workflow and an outstanding patient experience at our reputable clinic.
Responsibilities
- Manage clinic patient flow by promptly informing physicians of patient arrivals and room assignments.
- Accompany and assist patients in examination rooms with professionalism, ensuring a comfortable and efficient visit.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration. Perform pulse oximetry as needed.
- Utilize both manual equipment and the Welch Allen spot vital sign machine, with timely entry of results into electronic medical records (EMR).
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and medical procedures as required.
- Take patient medical histories when applicable, following department protocols.
- Conduct various testing, diagnostic, and screening procedures such as strep tests, flu tests, rapid COVID-19 tests, COVID-19 PCR, HA1C, EKG, and spirometry.
- Clearly explain test procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
- Administer vaccines per physician’s orders and confirm patient eligibility for immunizations.
- Utilize medical terminology and basic knowledge of medications to support patient care and documentation.
- Address patient concerns and coordinate with other healthcare facilities as needed, ensuring accurate documentation in the EMR system.
- Maintain clean and well-stocked examination rooms, reporting supply needs and equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Perform phlebotomy and venipuncture procedures as required.
Front Desk Duties
- Efficiently check patients in and out, ensuring all processes are completed with accuracy and professionalism.
- Conduct insurance verification and confirm patient demographic details at scheduling and check-in.
- Monitor and respond to patient and clinical staff messages in a timely manner.
- Engage in patient outreach to support appointment scheduling and follow-up care.
- Answer and direct incoming calls courteously, providing information or assistance as needed.
- Scan and organize incoming documents to maintain up-to-date patient records.
- Collect co-pays and other payments, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with clinic procedures.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming appearance at the waiting area and front desk to enhance the patient experience.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Medical Assistant (MA) or in a clinical support role is preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and familiarity with medical terminology and medication is beneficial.
- Strong multitasking abilities, attention to detail, and a friendly, professional demeanor.
- Demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy and venipuncture is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
