Mechanical Project Manager
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing commercial and industrial mechanical and plumbing projects, ensuring that all aspects of project execution are completed efficiently and in accordance with contract requirements. This full-time role, based in Austin, TX, offers the opportunity to work with a well-established mechanical and plumbing contractor experiencing significant growth in the region. As a Mechanical Project Manager, you will play a key role in managing project teams, schedules, budgets, and client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall management and direction for assigned mechanical and plumbing projects.
- Offer production oversight and collaborate closely with the project Superintendent to guide day-to-day operations of each project.
- Review project estimates, verify the accuracy of entries into job cost systems, and confirm the integrity of initial project estimates.
- Conduct pre-job and continuing planning meetings to ensure all project team members understand contract terms, schedules, and any unique requirements.
- Document planning meeting results and ensure all project action items are completed in a timely manner.
- Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive project schedules to monitor progress and personnel assignments.
- Manage procurement of equipment and subcontracts to support project schedules and funding requirements.
- Perform daily site visits or attend onsite meetings to inspect work, check job progress, and resolve project or contract issues as they arise.
- Investigate and address project issues, implementing corrective measures as necessary to maintain project timelines and quality standards.
- Manage project scope changes, ensuring that modifications are processed and incorporated promptly into the current scope of work.
- Provide detailed material takeoffs, as well as estimates and pricing for any changes to the project scope.
- Lead and participate in job meetings in accordance with company and customer guidelines and schedules.
- Foster and maintain long-term client relationships to facilitate effective communication and support future business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing construction projects, with additional experience in renovation work considered a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in negotiating construction change orders and presenting project proposals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities when addressing complex project challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations.
- Proficient in interpreting contractual documents, construction plans, specifications, schematic diagrams, and isometric drawings.
- Experience with job cost accounting systems and strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly intermediate skills in Excel.
- Solid understanding of financial models relevant to fixed price, cost plus, and unit rate/price contracting.
- Ability to be available as needed to support ongoing client operations, which may include occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness and ability to be on job sites daily to monitor progress, inspect completed work, and lead meetings to resolve issues.
