Mechanical Construction Project Manager Position Overview
The Mechanical Construction Project Manager position is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing commercial and industrial mechanical and plumbing construction projects. Based in Dallas, TX, this full-time position offers the opportunity to work with a reputable contractor known for exceptional customer service and innovative project delivery. The Mechanical Construction Project Manager plays a crucial part in supporting the company's growth and ensuring operational excellence on every project.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct overall management for assigned mechanical construction projects, ensuring successful project delivery from initiation through completion.
- Procure necessary equipment and subcontractors, maintaining strong vendor and partner relationships to support project needs.
- Monitor and accurately project job costs, ensuring projects remain within established budgets and financial targets.
- Maintain and update billing schedules, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and revenue recognition.
- Provide technical support and leadership to field teams, fostering a collaborative and efficient project environment.
- Work in tandem with the project superintendent to supervise daily field activities, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships, promoting effective communication and identifying future business opportunities.
- Review project estimates, verifying accuracy and completeness of data entered into job cost systems.
- Conduct pre-construction and ongoing planning meetings to ensure all team members understand project goals, schedules, contracts, and any unique requirements.
- Document meeting outcomes and track completion of action items to maintain project momentum.
- Create, update, and manage project schedules, monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed to meet deadlines.
- Oversee personnel manning schedules to align workforce deployment with project milestones.
- Lead the process of subcontract and equipment buy-outs, aligning with budgetary and scheduling goals.
- Perform regular site visits to monitor progress, conduct inspections, and resolve project or contract issues as they arise.
- Investigate project challenges proactively, implementing corrective actions to maintain safety, schedule, and quality standards.
- Manage scope changes, ensuring that all modifications are processed efficiently and integrated into the current scope of work.
- Prepare material takeoffs, estimates, and pricing for changes in project scope.
- Organize and participate in job meetings in accordance with both customer and company protocols.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing mechanical construction projects, with renovation experience considered a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate construction change orders and deliver effective project presentations.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to solve complex, multi-faceted problems using proven problem-solving methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentation abilities.
- Ability to interpret and apply information from contracts, plans, specifications, schematic diagrams, and isometric drawings.
- Proficiency in both technical and business correspondence.
- Experience with computerized job cost accounting systems.
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Understanding of financial models relevant to fixed price, cost plus, and unit rate/price contracting.
- Capability to work from a job trailer or office setting and regularly walk construction job sites, including negotiating common jobsite hazards.
- Flexibility to be on-call as necessary to support ongoing operations, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to be present at job sites daily to inspect work, check project progress, and conduct meetings to address issues.
