A Mechanical Construction Project Manager plays a critical role in overseeing commercial and industrial mechanical and plumbing projects from inception to completion. The Mechanical Construction Project Manager is charged with providing comprehensive management and leadership across multiple projects, ensuring high-quality delivery that meets client expectations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of assigned commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects, providing overall management direction and coordination for project teams.
- Procure necessary equipment and subcontracts, ensuring materials and services are available to meet project timelines and quality standards.
- Monitor and accurately project job costs, maintaining detailed and up-to-date financial records for each project.
- Maintain billing cycles and schedules, ensuring projects remain on track and within budgetary constraints.
- Deliver technical support and effective leadership to field personnel, fostering productive collaboration for successful project execution.
- Work closely with project Superintendents to provide production oversight and guide day-to-day activities.
- Develop and maintain long-term client relationships to promote open communication and secure future business opportunities.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Review and verify the accuracy of project estimates and ensure proper entry into job cost systems.
- Conduct pre-job and ongoing planning meetings with project team members to clarify contract terms, schedules, and unique project requirements.
- Document meeting outcomes and track completion of all action items to facilitate effective project management.
- Develop, maintain, and update all project schedules, adapting to changing requirements as needed.
- Monitor personnel deployment to ensure staffing aligns with project schedules and resource needs.
- Establish and execute subcontract and equipment buy-outs to support project funding and timelines.
- Visit job sites or onsite offices daily to inspect work, monitor progress, and resolve issues.
- Perform work inspections and address project or contract issues proactively, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Identify and process all scope changes promptly to ensure accurate and timely updates to the project scope of work.
- Provide material takeoff, estimates, and pricing for changes in the scope of work.
- Lead and participate in job meetings in accordance with customer and company guidelines and schedules.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience managing mechanical construction projects, including experience with renovation work.
- Proven negotiation skills, particularly in managing construction change orders and delivering project presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex, multi-faceted problems using a variety of problem-solving techniques.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including proficiency in delivering professional presentations.
- Ability to interpret contractual documents, construction plans, specifications, schematic diagrams, and isometric drawings.
- Competence in technical and business letter writing.
- Experience with computerized job cost accounting systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel at an intermediate level or higher.
- Understanding of financial models used in fixed price, cost plus, and unit rate/price contracting.
- Ability to work from a job trailer or office setting and regularly navigate construction sites, including uneven surfaces and challenging site conditions.
- Availability to be on call as needed to support ongoing operations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by project demands.
- Ability to be present on the job site daily to inspect work, ensure quality, and conduct meetings to resolve issues.
