IT Support Specialist (MSP) Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced IT Support Specialist (MSP) to join a dynamic managed services provider (MSP) team. This full-time opportunity is based in Carlsbad, CA, supporting small and medium-sized businesses with a comprehensive range of IT services. As an IT Support Specialist (MSP), you will be responsible for resolving complex technical issues, providing both remote and on-site support, and ensuring smooth IT operations for clients. Working within an MSP environment offers exposure to a diverse set of technologies and a collaborative, client-focused culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage escalated technical support tickets, addressing Level 2 incidents that require advanced troubleshooting beyond frontline support capabilities.
- Deliver both remote and occasional onsite IT support for end users, resolving issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
- Oversee user onboarding and offboarding processes, including device configuration and account management in Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.
- Assist with the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows Servers (2016–2022), Exchange servers, VPNs, file servers, and basic LAN/WAN infrastructure.
- Support the setup and maintenance of network devices such as firewalls, routers, and switches, ensuring secure and reliable network performance.
- Implement and maintain endpoint security measures, including antivirus installation, patch management, and monitoring of security alerts and remediation activities.
- Utilize RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) and PSA (Professional Services Automation) tools—including Kaseya, ConnectWise, Ninja, Autotask, and ConnectWise Manage—to monitor systems, manage tickets, and document support activities.
- Contribute to IT documentation, maintain accurate records, and create knowledge base articles to support internal and client-facing technical resources.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and escalate complex incidents as needed, ensuring timely resolution and project support under supervision.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in an MSP or similar IT support environment, with hands-on experience managing tickets and providing end-user support.
- Proficient in supporting Windows 10/11 operating systems, Windows Server environments (2016–2022), Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Exchange.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues, as well as basic network infrastructure components.
- Familiarity with RMM and PSA tools for system monitoring, ticket management, and documentation.
- Experience supporting end users with device setup, email, cloud services, and remote access solutions.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls, VLANs, and WAN/LAN configurations.
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, as well as cloud environments like Azure, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.
Certifications
- CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications required; Security+, M365/O365 administration, and vendor-specific certifications such as Cisco CCNA, VMware VCP, or Microsoft Azure credentials are highly valued.
- Microsoft certifications such as Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, MCSA, MCSE, or MCITP are considered a plus.
