Insurance Customer Service Representative Job Overview
The Insurance Customer Service Representative is responsible for providing exceptional service and support to clients, ensuring all aspects of customer needs are met within the insurance agency. This full-time position plays a key role in assisting with the marketing and servicing of insurance products, supporting existing policyholders, and helping attract new customers. Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers with their insurance needs by responding to inquiries, processing transactions, and addressing policy questions both in-person and over the phone.
- Market the agency’s insurance products and services, including auto, home, and other financial products, to prospective and existing clients.
- Calculate insurance premiums, applicable discounts, and payment schedules; explain payment options to clients.
- Prepare and submit necessary paperwork such as forms, applications, agreements, and policy endorsements in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all policy documentation is accurate and complete prior to submission to underwriting or processing teams.
- Follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction and address any outstanding needs or concerns.
- Maintain updated records of policy changes, client details, and other essential information in agency and insurance databases.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions, webinars, and seminars to stay informed about new products, services, and industry changes.
- Engage in cross-selling and up-selling additional products and services based on customer needs and agency goals.
- Attend and contribute to agency team meetings and collaborative activities.
- Handle incoming payments, provide receipts, process transactions, and manage any returned checks in coordination with agency procedures.
- Promote positive and professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
- Support the development and execution of agency marketing plans and client outreach initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management to support agency operations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated experience with computer applications, especially Windows-based programs.
- Prior exposure to customer service and marketing is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of auto insurance and other personal lines insurance products is a plus.
- Ability to meet insurance licensing requirements and obtain US Bank certification if necessary.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to provide tailored solutions to client needs.
- Excellent communication skills, including listening, speaking, and writing abilities.
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all work performed.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and a dynamic work environment.
- Initiative to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Professional demeanor and ability to build rapport with clients and coworkers.
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
Required Training and Certifications
- Successful completion and maintenance of all state and federal licensing requirements to market and service insurance products.
- Ongoing participation in agency and industry training, including compliance and information security awareness programs.
- Completion of all required continuing education (CE) courses as mandated by regulatory agencies.
Work Environment
The Insurance Customer Service Representative position is based in a professional office setting and may require occasional travel to agency locations or client sites. Irregular hours may be required to meet the needs of clients and the agency.
