Instrumentation and Electrical Technician (I&E Technician)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Instrumentation and Electrical Technician (I&E Technician) to support our maintenance team in a dynamic chemical manufacturing environment in Houston, Texas. As a full-time I&E Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our plant’s instrumentation and electrical systems. This is an outstanding opportunity for a professional who thrives in a safety-oriented workplace and is passionate about troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving plant automation and electrical infrastructure.

In this role, the I&E Technician will be responsible for a wide range of technical tasks, including preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of various equipment, and documentation of all maintenance activities. Utilizing your expertise, you will help drive operational excellence by supporting both daily plant operations and major projects such as shutdowns and turnarounds. Your ability to read and interpret technical drawings, collaborate effectively with team members, and mentor junior technicians will be highly valued within our organization.

The I&E Technician will perform maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of plant instrumentation and electrical equipment. This includes troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, motors, transmitters, valves, analyzers, and process instrumentation. You will also assist with diagnosing and repairing PLC and control systems, particularly those from leading brands such as Yokogawa, supporting the seamless operation of plant processes. Executing preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability is a key aspect of this position, along with maintaining accurate documentation and repair histories.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the I&E Technician is expected to support plant operations by responding to emergency maintenance needs as required and participating in outage planning and shutdown activities. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety protocols, and promoting a culture of safety are foundational expectations for this role. Candidates should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with a willingness to work overtime and respond to call-outs as necessary. Physical requirements include climbing stairs and ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in confined spaces, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Ideal candidates will possess 4-6 years of industrial instrumentation and electrical maintenance experience, particularly in chemical, petrochemical, refinery, or manufacturing settings. A strong working knowledge of PLC troubleshooting, process instrumentation, and preventive maintenance programs is essential. Familiarity with reading electrical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and technical documentation is crucial, as are excellent troubleshooting and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to mentor and train junior technicians are also highly desirable.

Preferred qualifications include NCCER Craft Certification or equivalent, experience with Yokogawa control systems, leadership ability, and confined space training or the ability to obtain such training. Hands-on experience with tools and equipment such as multimeters, meggers, clamp meters, HART communicators, pneumatic calibration equipment, and standard electrical and mechanical hand tools will be advantageous for success in this role.

Joining our team as an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician provides you with the opportunity to work for a stable, growing organization that values technical expertise, safety, and continuous improvement.
