Human Resources Director (HR Director) Job Overview
The Human Resources Director (HR Director) plays a vital leadership role in overseeing all aspects of human resources management for a dynamic Family Medicine and Urgent Care practice with 8 providers and more than 45 employees. This full-time position is responsible for ensuring effective HR operations, fostering a compliant and supportive workplace, and maintaining the standard of excellence that supports both patient care and employee satisfaction. The HR Director will report directly to senior leadership and collaborate closely with medical and administrative teams to fulfill the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- HR Management: Oversee the daily operations of the Human Resources department, ensuring efficient processes and a positive employee experience for all staff members.
- Compliance: Ensure the organization’s HR practices are in full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Monitor regulatory changes and update policies and procedures accordingly.
- Payroll Verification and Submission: Supervise payroll processes, confirm accuracy of payroll data, and coordinate timely submission of payroll for all employees, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Benefits Administration: Manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans. Respond to employee inquiries and coordinate annual benefits enrollment.
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Lead the recruitment process for clinical and administrative roles, from job postings and interviewing to background checks and new employee orientation. Implement onboarding procedures that foster early engagement and retention.
- Employee Termination: Oversee all aspects of employee offboarding, ensuring adherence to legal requirements, company policy, and respectful, professional communication.
- HR Policies and Procedures: Develop, maintain, and update HR policies and procedures to reflect best practices and regulatory requirements. Communicate changes effectively to all staff.
- Performance Review: Coordinate the performance evaluation process, supporting managers in delivering constructive feedback and setting clear, measurable goals.
- Staff Performance Issues and Counseling: Provide guidance to managers and employees regarding performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution in alignment with company culture and legal standards.
- Maintaining Job Descriptions: Ensure all job descriptions are up-to-date, accurately reflect job responsibilities, and are communicated to staff as needed.
- Other Duties: Perform additional HR-related duties as assigned by leadership to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in human resources management, preferably in a healthcare or multi-provider medical practice setting.
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance and employment law.
- Proficiency in payroll processes and benefits administration.
- Demonstrated ability in recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and policy development.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Organizational, analytical, and leadership skills to manage multiple HR functions simultaneously.
