The GIS Technician plays a crucial role in supporting public-sector transportation initiatives by maintaining, editing, and improving roadway Geographic Information System (GIS) datasets. This full-time position offers hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS and the opportunity to contribute to the creation and maintenance of critical geospatial data that informs infrastructure and transportation decisions. As a GIS Technician, candidates will be immersed in detailed geospatial data editing, quality assurance, and the production of maps and analytical reports that are essential for accurate transportation planning and operations.
Working as a GIS Technician means being at the forefront of data integrity, ensuring that roadway changes—such as new routes, closures, curb alterations, and other transportation-related features—are accurately reflected in the organization’s GIS. GIS Technician - Summary- Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of roadway GIS datasets for a public-sector organization.
- Utilize Esri ArcGIS to edit, validate, and manage geospatial data with a focus on transportation infrastructure.
- Produce GIS deliverables, including maps and reports, that directly support infrastructure planning and decision-making.

- Edit and maintain roadway GIS data using Esri ArcGIS, performing both geometry and attribute updates to ensure data accuracy.
- Review aerial imagery and existing GIS datasets to identify and document roadway changes, including new or closed roads, reroutes, curbs, rumble strips, and other relevant features.
- Create, update, and correct GIS features using ArcGIS editing tools within common GIS data formats such as shapefiles and geodatabases.
- Query, validate, and troubleshoot GIS data to maintain high standards of consistency and compliance with organizational GIS standards.
- Generate professional-quality maps, reports, and other GIS deliverables, leveraging platforms such as ArcGIS Online.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to support ongoing projects and respond to data requests as needed.

- Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Cartography, or a related field, or equivalent relevant GIS/ArcGIS training and experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on professional experience with GIS, particularly in production or data maintenance workflows.
- Proficiency in Esri ArcGIS (ArcGIS Desktop/ArcGIS 10.x or comparable experience).
- Experience using ArcGIS editing tools to accurately edit and correct geospatial data, including both geometry and attributes.
- Understanding of fundamental GIS concepts, including spatial geometry, attribute data, and data quality/validation practices.
- Detail-oriented and analytical, with a strong commitment to data accuracy and quality.
- Enjoys working on projects that directly impact public infrastructure and safety.
- Comfortable working with large datasets and performing repetitive, high-precision editing tasks.
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to evolving project needs.
