We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Emergency Veterinarian (DVM/VMD) to join our team in the Chicago, IL area. Key Responsibilities
- Provide immediate triage, assessment, and treatment for animal emergencies, ensuring prompt and effective care for all patients.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and order or conduct diagnostic tests such as ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies to accurately diagnose medical conditions.
- Develop, communicate, and implement diagnostic and therapeutic plans tailored to each patient's needs, working collaboratively with pet owners and veterinary staff.
- Perform minor and major emergency surgical procedures as required, demonstrating proficiency and a commitment to continual learning in surgical techniques.
- Educate clients on aftercare instructions and preventative healthcare measures, ensuring owners are well-informed and empowered to care for their pets post-treatment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, document treatment plans, and prepare estimates for care, ensuring clear communication and transparency with clients.
- Answer medical questions from pet owners over the phone, providing professional and compassionate consultations as part of our emergency services.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of 3-4 doctors per shift, as well as support staff, to provide continuous, high-level emergency veterinary care.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- At least one year of experience in emergency or critical care veterinary medicine is preferred; however, candidates with a strong willingness to learn and adapt are encouraged to apply.
- Willingness to treat exotic animals is required; prior experience with exotics is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with practice management software, electronic medical records (EMR), and effective use of collaboration tools.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with both clients and team members in person and over the phone.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis as part of a dedicated emergency veterinary team.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards in veterinary care and client service.
About Our Team and Locations
This Emergency Veterinarian (DVM/VMD) role is based in the greater Chicago, IL area, serving communities in Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Naperville, and the South Loop. Our modern facilities are staffed with teams of skilled veterinarians, including 10 doctors and three key leadership roles at most hospitals: Medical Director, Hospital Manager, and Nursing Manager. We are also expanding, with new sites opening in Schaumburg in January 2025, offering growth and development opportunities for veterinary professionals.
