Emergency Medicine Physician (EM) – Locum Tenens OverviewOptigy is seeking a board-eligible or board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician (EM) for a locum tenens, full-time opportunity at a high-volume community emergency department in Chalmette, Louisiana. This Emergency Medicine Physician (EM) – Locum Tenens role offers a rewarding chance to contribute to patient care while enjoying the unique culture and community of Chalmette, LA. This position is open for immediate start in June 2025 and provides flexibility with 15–20 shifts available per month and the option to work a minimum of 3–5 shifts per block. The role is onsite and offers an expedited privileging process for eligible candidates.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality emergency medical care to a diverse patient population in a fast-paced, 10-bed emergency department with an annual volume of 28,415 visits.
- Manage approximately 79 patients per day, with 11.3% arriving via EMS and an 8.7% admission rate.
- Collaborate with a dedicated clinical team, including daily MD/DO coverage of 34 hours and NP/PA coverage of 12 hours.
- Work assigned shifts, which may include 7a–7p, 2p–12a, and 7p–7a for physicians, and 9a–9p for NP/PA support.
- Utilize the Ochsner EPIC electronic medical record system for all patient documentation and care coordination.
- Complete all required orientation, EMR training, and a shadow shift prior to independent clinical work.
- Board eligible or board certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine (BE/BC EM, FM, or IM).
- Active Louisiana medical license required.
- Acceptable board certifications include ABEM, AOBEM, ABFM, and ABIM (ABPS not accepted).
- For those not ABEM-certified, valid ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications are required.
- Residency training in emergency medicine or related specialty is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must submit to credentialing (30–60 days) and provide required immunization records (waiver considered).
- Must maintain a clean file for expedited onboarding; expedited privileging available for eligible candidates.
- Access to extensive specialty backup, including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Pulmonary, Urology, Gastroenterology, ICU, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Radiology, and General Surgery, ensures comprehensive patient care and provider support.
