Emergency Medicine Physician (EM, FP, IM) - Locum Tenens Position Overview
Optigy is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Physician for a Locum Tenens, Full-Time opportunity in Laredo, Texas. This role is ideal for board-certified or board-eligible emergency medicine physicians, as well as family practice (FP) or internal medicine (IM) physicians with significant emergency department (ED) experience. Physicians will provide coverage across four facilities in Texas and Louisiana, including Laredo Medical Center Main, Laredo Medical Center North, St. Bernard Parish Hospital, and CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality emergency medical care to patients in fast-paced, high-volume settings across multiple sites in Texas and Louisiana.
- Work scheduled shifts from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at all facilities, with no on-call requirements.
- Float between four facilities as needed to ensure optimal patient care and department coverage.
- Manage a diverse patient population, with annual volumes of 48,000 visits at Laredo Medical Center Main and 10,000 at Laredo Medical Center North.
- Handle daily patient volumes averaging 131 at Laredo Medical Center Main and 27 at Laredo Medical Center North.
- Utilize Cerner EMR for efficient, accurate documentation and workflow management.
- Provide trauma care in a Level III trauma center with 38 ED beds at the main site.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and access backup specialties including IM, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, OB, Neurology, Neurosurgery, ENT, Orthopedics, Surgery, and Cath Lab.
- Work independently without scribe support while maintaining thorough and compliant documentation.
Qualifications
- Active Texas medical license is required for all candidates.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Emergency Medicine, or in Family Practice/Internal Medicine with a minimum of 4,000 hours of demonstrated ED experience.
- Completion of an accredited residency program is mandatory.
- Advanced certifications required: ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
- Minimum of two years’ recent experience working in an emergency department setting.
- ABPS certification is not accepted for this position.
- Immunization is required; however, waivers may be considered in certain circumstances.
- Credentialing and privileging process typically takes about 60 days, with expedited options available.

This locum tenens role offers a flexible schedule beginning May 1, 2025, with a minimum commitment of six months. Physicians must be willing to float between four facilities in Texas and Louisiana.
