Electrical Design Engineer (Healthcare, EIT) Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Design Engineer (Healthcare, EIT) to join a dynamic engineering firm. This full-time position based in Irvine, CA offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects in the healthcare sector and beyond. As an Electrical Design Engineer (Healthcare, EIT), you will play a key role in delivering technical solutions that enhance and sustain the built and social environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in pre-design engineering tasks for healthcare and hospital building projects, including reviewing existing as-built drawings and performing field investigations.
- Set up drawings and models for interdisciplinary coordination and collaborate regularly with team members to ensure design schedules and deliverables are met.
- Conduct feasibility studies and prepare schematic designs that support innovative and sustainable project outcomes.
- Perform energy calculations using tools such as EnergyPro or IES VE to optimize building performance.
- Develop and review single-line diagrams and load schedules for healthcare facilities.
- Design lighting systems, including selection and controls, as well as normal, emergency, and renewable power systems tailored to healthcare environments.
- Complete Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination Power System Studies to ensure safety and code compliance.
- Engage with low voltage building systems such as fire alarm, security, voice/data, and nurse call systems. Experience in these areas is considered a plus.
- Apply standard engineering techniques to perform basic calculations and prepare construction estimates and specifications for small-size projects.
- Independently generate small reports and actively participate in construction administration by reviewing submittals and supporting project delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field is required.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
- LEED Accreditation is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Prior experience working on healthcare or hospital building projects is essential.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Familiarity with California Building Code and National Electrical Code is required.
- Experience with HCAI (Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development - Healthcare Access and Information) projects is a plus.
- Experience in Net Zero Energy/Carbon design is also a plus.
