Electric Motor Winder - Summary- Responsible for repairing, rewinding, rebuilding, and testing AC and DC electric motors and generators
- Performs insulation repairs and electrical testing according to industry standards
- Maintains documentation and ensures quality control throughout the repair process
- Works with specialized tools and equipment in a collaborative team environment
- Remove and document existing motor windings
- Collect and record winding data such as coil pitch, turns per coil, and wire size
- Burn out stators using controlled procedures and prepare cores for rewinding
- Repair insulation damage and manufacture/install replacement coils
- Wind random-wound and form-coil stators, install slot and phase insulation, and connect coils per diagrams
- Perform brazing, soldering, and electrical connections to ensure secure assembly
- Prepare windings for varnish treatment and operate dip-and-bake or VPI systems
- Monitor curing cycles, inspect insulation systems for compliance, and document all processes
- Conduct Megger, Surge comparison, Resistance, Hi-Pot, and Polarization Index testing
- Troubleshoot electrical failures and determine root causes
- Maintain repair records and complete all quality control documentation
- Read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams accurately

- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years experience in motor winding, rewinding, or related electrical repair
- Ability to read and interpret winding diagrams and electrical schematics
- Knowledge of AC and DC motor construction and operation
- Experience using electrical test equipment safely is essential
- Preferred: experience with motors ranging from 1 HP to 10,000+ HP, EASA repair standards, form-coil windings, medium-voltage motors, and explosion-proof motors
- Technical school or electrical apprenticeship training is a plus
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand for extended periods, and distinguish wire colors accurately
- Comfortable working around ovens, varnish systems, and industrial machinery
- Detail-oriented and committed to quality workmanship
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues
- Effective communicator with a collaborative approach to teamwork
