DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) – z/OS Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and optimize IBM DB2 databases on z/OS mainframe systems (V11+)
- Install, upgrade, and maintain DB2 z/OS subsystems
- Perform capacity planning and architectural design for database server deployments
- Support and troubleshoot multi-terabyte, mission-critical database platforms
- Design and implement backup and recovery strategies
- Collaborate with application development teams to resolve database performance issues
- Conduct database migrations and support production rollouts
- Implement security measures such as data encryption, auditing, and access controls
- Utilize tools like Nimsoft, Dynatrace, Datadog, Omegamon, Control-M, and Guardium for monitoring and automation
- Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems as needed
- Create and maintain data models, schemas, views, and tables
- Automate administrative tasks using scripting languages (Shell, Python, Perl)
- Work with IBM and other vendors to resolve complex technical issues

Qualifications & Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience with DB2 z/OS databases (V11+)
- Comprehensive knowledge of DB2 z/OS architecture and operational support
- Experience with Netezza Performance Server database administration
- Knowledge of data warehouse concepts (data marts, data lakes)
- Familiarity with scripting languages and automation tools
- Proven track record supporting high-availability, mission-critical environments
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Strong understanding of database security and compliance requirements
- Experience with database performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Experience with event management and performance monitoring solutions
- Working knowledge of database licensing, optimization, JCL, and performance monitoring tools
- Project management methodology knowledge is a plus
