Construction Superintendent – Multifamily Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Superintendent – Multifamily to lead field operations for multifamily construction projects. This full-time opportunity is based in San Diego, CA, a city well-known for its vibrant construction market and diverse multifamily developments. The Construction Superintendent – Multifamily will play a central role in coordinating daily site activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, and maintaining high safety and quality standards throughout each phase of construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee field operations on multiple multifamily construction projects simultaneously, ensuring all site activities align with project goals and timelines.
- Implement and manage comprehensive safety programs to foster a culture of safety that meets or exceeds company and industry standards.
- Monitor compliance with project quality control requirements and ensure all work meets approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Develop and maintain construction schedules in collaboration with the project team, updating progress daily to ensure milestones and completion dates are achieved.
- Coordinate the procurement and distribution of materials, confirming receipt and managing equipment returns as necessary.
- Maintain accurate inventory logs and distribute materials to field employees efficiently.
- Supervise field employees and subcontractors, ensuring productivity and accuracy in time and production reporting.
- Mentor and support project team members, fostering professional development and adherence to company standards.
- Lead regular project meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders to support ongoing project progression.
- Maintain detailed daily logs tracking site activities, inspections, and project events.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and job discussion forums, as well as manage and perform weekly safety inspections.
- Prepare and distribute weekly progress reports to ensure stakeholders are informed of project status.
- Review work with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure all construction is in compliance with plans and specifications.
- Review vendor drawings and submittals, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Authorize key personnel transactions such as hiring, transfers, and wage adjustments in conjunction with project managers.
- Participate in project planning to drive innovation and operational excellence, utilizing work plans to guide execution.
- Collaborate with all work teams, including subcontractors, to resolve issues and support project objectives in quality, safety, and scheduling.
- Promote a culture of quality, ensuring all deliverables meet company standards and customer expectations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 8-10 years experience supervising ground-up multifamily or hotel construction projects.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all construction trades, with the ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Experience as a foreman or journeyman is preferred.
- Current OSHA 10-hour training or equivalent safety certification.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), with advanced skills in Microsoft Project and Procore.
- Experience with BIM, LEAN, and LEED construction practices is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions and to travel across construction sites as needed.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and navigate active construction environments.
- Valid motor vehicle driving record consistent with company and insurance standards.
- Competence in using communication tools, including cellular devices and email, to maintain connectivity with the project team.
