Construction Superintendent
The Construction Superintendent plays a critical role in the successful delivery of commercial construction projects, with a focus on ground-up development and tenant improvement (TI) work. As a Construction Superintendent in Orange County, CA, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations on-site, ensuring adherence to project schedules, safety protocols, and quality standards. This full-time position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in tilt-up and ground-up commercial construction, particularly those who have experience with automobile dealership builds.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field activities to meet project milestones and completion dates for all assigned construction projects in Orange County, CA.
- Create and maintain short-interval, look-ahead project schedules to track upcoming tasks, proactively address potential issues, and facilitate solutions in a timely manner.
- Implement and manage the project site safety plan, fostering a culture that prioritizes safety, health, and cleanliness throughout all stages of construction.
- Coordinate and supervise work to ensure all activities are conducted in an orderly manner, adhering to industry best practices and the standards set forth in contract documents.
- Establish and maintain all dimensional controls for the project, utilizing third-party survey and layout professionals as necessary.
- Verify workmanship quality by ensuring all installations are executed to the highest standards (e.g., plumb, level, straight).
- Obtain necessary inspections and ensure all aspects of the physical work are fully documented for quality assurance purposes.
- Monitor project compliance with contract terms and relevant legal requirements, including community regulations in Orange County, CA.
- Administer client-specific protocols, such as landlord/site rules, regulations, safety, and site-specific security requirements.
- Conduct and participate in pre-construction, progress, and other project meetings as needed.
- Manage self-performed activities to maintain alignment with the established project budget.
- Oversee project scope changes to ensure the use of current documents and prevent avoidable rework.
- Administer contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and related agreements to ensure consistent compliance and proactive management of scope, terms, and conditions.
- Lead the punch list and project closeout process to ensure timely and comprehensive completion.
- Maintain daily administrative tasks such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and correspondence.
- Foster positive interactions with supporting work groups, including client internal departments, vendors, and security personnel.
- Contribute to project proposals, review estimates, and participate in interviews as required.
- Support business development through marketing and project acquisition efforts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall company objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Documented experience in tilt-up and ground-up commercial construction projects.
- Strong background in tenant improvement (TI) work.
- Automobile dealership construction experience is a significant advantage.
- An AS degree in Construction Management or equivalent, or Journeyman status in a building trade from an accredited organization paired with progressive supervisory experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction means and methods relevant to commercial and institutional building projects, including site work.
- Proficiency with industry software, including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, scheduling applications, and email platforms.
- Current safety credentials, including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR certifications.
