Construction Safety Manager (CSM) Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Manager (CSM) to join our team on a full-time basis. This role is essential for ensuring a safe and compliant work environment on all construction project sites. The Construction Safety Manager (CSM) is responsible for identifying potential hazards, developing effective solutions to mitigate risks, and supporting construction crews to maintain a focus on safe project completion. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily safety inspections and audits on active project sites to confirm adherence to government regulations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Evaluate ongoing work conditions at various job sites to guarantee compliance with industry safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborate with external parties, including government inspectors, to review and assess construction site safety processes.
- Identify specific workplace hazards such as electrical risks, hazardous substances, work at heights, and other potential threats, and develop strategies to minimize or eliminate these risks.
- Work closely with project management teams and field staff to implement effective solutions to address safety concerns and promote a safe working environment.
- Review construction blueprints and site plans for safety features including disposal systems, emergency evacuation routes, lighting, and ventilation, ensuring all designs protect the well-being of workers and guests.
- Develop and update emergency procedure plans in collaboration with senior management.
- Maintain comprehensive safety records, including OSHA 300 logs and documentation of safety training certifications such as OSHA OTI.
- Conduct employee training sessions on safe work practices, emergency procedures, and workplace hazard identification.
- Enforce safety compliance by addressing non-compliance and taking corrective actions with subcontractors and employees as necessary.
- Represent the company in meetings with governmental agencies and other organizations regarding workplace health and safety matters.
- Engage with licensing bodies to stay informed about updates to legal regulations and new initiatives concerning workplace safety and environmental issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of five years' experience in construction safety, with a focus on identifying hazards and implementing protective measures.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey safety requirements and procedures to diverse teams.
- Excellent listening abilities, with a focus on understanding employee perspectives and receiving feedback constructively.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards relevant to the construction industry and the ability to apply this knowledge proactively.
- Exceptional organizational and record-keeping skills for managing all safety-related documentation efficiently.
- Physical capability to access elevated work areas using ladders or scaffolding, as required for site inspections and evaluations.
- Expertise in construction trades or specific work types relevant to the company’s operations, facilitating practical safety solution design and implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also displaying independent motivation and self-confidence in carrying out safety initiatives.
