We are seeking a dedicated Construction Safety Engineer (CSE) for a full-time opportunity in San Diego, CA. As a Construction Safety Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing and implementing a comprehensive company-wide health and safety program. The Construction Safety Engineer position requires frequent interaction with all staff members, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and fostering a culture of workplace safety within the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly safety audits on active projects to identify hazards, assess program effectiveness, and support corrective actions.
- Assist project teams with initial safety start-up, including reviewing project-specific safety concerns such as hazardous materials, safety signage, and supplies.
- Plan and execute daily jobsite inspection programs to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards.
- Organize and participate in weekly all-hands safety meetings and pre-task planning sessions as needed.
- Attend weekly staff and subcontractor foreman meetings to address and reinforce safety protocols.
- Conduct safety-related training and orientations for field personnel, ensuring all team members are informed and equipped to perform work safely.
- Collaborate with the Safety Director to develop, update, and implement safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of OSHA, DOSH, and NFPA standards as they pertain to construction site health and safety.
- Utilize computer skills to support safety documentation, including maintaining OSHA 300 logs and preparing training materials.
- Respond to and investigate jobsite accidents and injuries, assisting with documentation and follow-up reporting processes.
- Address regulatory site visits and ensure all required safety documentation is readily available.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline, or a minimum of two years of progressive construction safety experience.
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey safety requirements clearly and concisely.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, DOSH, and NFPA regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated experience in managing safety and health programs, accident investigations, and hazard analysis within the construction sector.
- Documented expertise in accident investigation, job hazard and safety analysis, hazard communication, and abatement control measures.
- Proficiency in fall protection, hazardous energy controls, electrical safety, permit-required confined spaces, trenching, cranes and rigging, scaffolding, and demolition safety processes.
- Ability to adapt to various work shifts and weather conditions as required by project demands.
- Organizational, leadership, and computer skills necessary for maintaining safety logs and preparing presentations and reports.
- Relevant certifications such as OSHA 500, Rigging, or CHST are advantageous.
Required Certifications
- EPA Asbestos Inspector/Contractor Supervisor certification.
- Competent Person Training for Trench/Excavation, Fall Protection, and Scaffolds.
- HAZWOPER 29 CFR 1910.120 with annual refresher.
- Completion of a 40-hour Industrial Hygiene Fundamentals course every five years.
- Fed-OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach or OSHA 500 training every four years.
- CPR/First Aid training as required.
