Construction Project Manager Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Project Manager to oversee the lifecycle of commercial construction projects, with a particular focus on hotel developments. This full-time position is based in San Diego, CA, offering an excellent opportunity to work directly with reputable hotel brands such as Marriott and Hilton. As a Construction Project Manager, you will play a key role in supervising and guiding all phases of ground-up construction, from the review of initial construction drawings through to project completion and final inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of commercial construction projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and specifications.
- Supervise labor functions including construction agreements, oversight of general contractors, and conducting project site visits.
- Review and assess design, architectural, and structural plans to ensure project requirements are met.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids and negotiate contracts as needed.
- Coordinate trades and subcontractors, and evaluate the quality of workmanship throughout the project phases.
- Work collaboratively with management, design teams, and interior designers, reviewing shop drawings and providing measurements or project-specific information.
- Communicate regularly with management, clients, subcontractors, and designers to provide updates and follow up on project milestones.
- Conduct consistent and detailed site visits to monitor project progress, activity, and the quality of work performed by installers.
- Obtain and share regular feedback from site visits regarding project progression.
- Ensure job sites meet completion standards and sign off on project completion.
- Maintain control of project budgets and confirm all work aligns with project plans and objectives.
- Travel to project sites within the San Diego, CA area as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience in construction project management, preferably with hotel or commercial projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and crews of varying sizes and complexities.
- Proficient understanding of commercial construction, building codes, regulations, and industry best practices, especially as they relate to hotel construction.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to utilize technology in daily operations, including proficiency with Office 365 programs.
- Outstanding organizational skills and strong negotiation abilities.
- Experience reading and understanding construction plans and documents.
- CA State Contractor’s license and cabinetry expertise are advantageous but not required.
