Construction Project Accountant Job Overview
We are seeking a Construction Project Accountant to join a leading renewable energy company specializing in solar, wind, and battery storage generation. With a strong presence in California, Nevada, Texas, and Colorado, the company operates 2.2 gigawatts (GW) of projects and has an additional 0.5 GW under construction. The organization is rapidly expanding and currently employs nearly 300 professionals dedicated to supporting the advancement of clean energy solutions. This full-time position in San Diego, CA, is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to collaborate with a dynamic accounting team and contribute to the financial success of innovative construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Construction Draws: Prepare and submit construction draws for multiple projects, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Maintain year-to-date budget files and perform variance analyses for each construction project. Provide all necessary documentation, contracts, and lien waivers for independent engineer reviews. Respond efficiently to inquiries from Corporate Finance, Accounting Departments, Accounting Manager, and Project Managers. Support Project Managers by assisting with completion forecasts.
- Financial Reporting: Generate month-end financial reports for both construction and development projects to ensure accurate tracking and compliance with company standards.
- Financial Support Duties: Maintain comprehensive contract logs for all construction and development projects. Enter contract data into Purchasing and Project Accounting modules within the Great Plains Accounting Software. Manage the posting of intercompany journal entries, monitor cash movements for book transfers, and process wire requests as needed. Offer support to corporate accountants regarding accruals and provide assistance during annual audits.
- Development and Construction Support: Collaborate closely with Development and Construction Managers, providing timely updates on payment statuses, preparing construction reports, and participating in team meetings. Address project-related questions and ensure effective communication across departments.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in construction or project accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a four-year accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Accounting designation preferred.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet applications, including intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with financial accounting systems, ideally with Great Plains Accounting Software.
- Demonstrated experience in construction accounting is essential.
- Ability to manage deadlines independently and effectively, with minimal supervision.
- Resourceful and self-motivated, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
