Construction Estimator Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team in Irving, TX on a full-time basis. The Construction Estimator will play a critical role in the accurate preparation and analysis of cost estimates for structural steel components, which is essential to the successful planning and execution of our projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a solid understanding of construction practices, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough and detailed take-offs for structural steel components using both computer-aided design (CAD) tools and manual measurement methods to ensure precision in material calculations.
- Apply established labor standards to various project components to support accurate cost forecasting and budgeting.
- Develop comprehensive estimate packages, ensuring all supporting documentation is included for review and approval by project management.
- Review and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors, verifying their compliance with project specifications and contract documentation.
- Prepare clear and concise estimate summaries, identifying any special requirements or buy-out items that are crucial for project scope execution.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to align estimates with project goals, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices in estimating to drive efficiency and accuracy within the team.
- Assist in mentoring and training Estimators in Training (EITs), providing constructive feedback and guidance on estimating methodologies and industry standards.
- Demonstrated experience in structural steel estimating, or a related field within construction estimating.
- Proficiency with computer-aided estimating software such as Bluebeam, Tekla, or AutoCAD, as well as strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Thorough understanding of structural steel components, technical drawings, detailing, and construction industry practices.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual documents with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills to facilitate clear documentation and effective teamwork.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Previous experience in mentoring or training junior estimators or team members.
