Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Job Overview
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the principal clinical leader of Community Health Programs, Inc., playing a pivotal role in overseeing the clinical direction and operational effectiveness of the organization. This full-time leadership position offers a dynamic blend of clinical practice and administrative responsibilities, with two days per week dedicated to direct patient care and three days focused on strategic leadership and management. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) ensures that clinical services are delivered in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, while driving continuous improvement in patient care delivery and health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall clinical leadership and direction for the health center, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer, senior leadership, and management teams to carry out the organization’s strategic plan and support its mission and vision.
- Oversee patient access and care, clinician well-being, and clinician engagement, advocating for both clinicians and patients to promote a positive care environment.
- Communicate the clinical vision and strategic objectives to clinicians, staff, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders, fostering alignment throughout the organization.
- Direct and monitor the implementation of clinical controls and oversight mechanisms to achieve clinical, quality, and access goals.
- Advocate for compliance, quality assurance, and safety in all areas of clinical operations, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.
- Support and collaborate effectively with administrative peers to balance clinical excellence with organizational goals, including financial sustainability.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, empowering care teams to achieve high productivity and efficiency in patient-centered, cost-effective care.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree from an accredited M.D. or D.O. program.
- Five (5) or more years of experience as a practicing physician.
- Current Massachusetts medical license, or eligibility to obtain one.
- Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience managing clinicians and staff within a healthcare delivery organization, preferably in a community health setting.
- Experience with electronic health records systems; familiarity with Athena is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in achieving clinical goals and driving results within healthcare environments.
- Strong business acumen, including understanding of budgets, financial statements, productivity, and strategic planning.
