Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Job Overview
Community Health Programs (CHP) is seeking dedicated individuals for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) position to join our dynamic healthcare team. This opportunity is available in both full-time and part-time capacities in Great Barrington and Pittsfield, MA. As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), you will work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses to support patient care and uphold the mission and vision of CHP. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a critical role in creating a compassionate, collaborative, and innovative environment, maintaining high standards of patient care, and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Welcome and escort patients to examination rooms, ensuring a comfortable and respectful experience.
- Prepare patients for their visits, including accurately obtaining and recording vital signs and performing patient intake to assist providers as per established protocols.
- Support healthcare providers during examinations, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures as requested.
- Direct patients following their visits to ensure smooth transitions and clear communication regarding follow-up care.
- Perform EKGs on selected patients as needed, prepare laboratory requests, accurately label specimens, and deliver them to designated areas.
- Retrieve laboratory results and x-ray reports, and ensure exam rooms are cleaned and restocked after each patient visit.
- Administer vaccines (for Certified Medical Assistants only) and maintain current professional certification or registration.
- Update service profiles to accommodate provider scheduling needs and assist with answering, screening, and routing outside calls.
- Provide information to callers, record messages, and perform clerical duties as requested.
- Communicate with outside agencies as directed by providers to support seamless patient care coordination.
- Respond to patient calls and messages promptly to address their needs and inquiries.
- Pre-register patients at the time of appointment scheduling and accurately obtain information for appropriate triage as per protocol.
- Ensure all required follow-up bookings are made according to patient care plans.
- Cross-train to provide backup support for patient services and reception duties as needed.
- Have clinical protocols and competencies reviewed annually by a supervising RN or clinical trainer.
- Maintain a current CPR certification at all times.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, and successful completion of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Active Massachusetts Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Certification.
- Experience working in a medical office and with electronic medical records is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to travel to various practice locations throughout Berkshire County if necessary.
- Willingness to work some weekend shifts as part of the flexible scheduling needs of the healthcare team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a patient-focused approach to care.

Employment Type
