Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Job Description
Total Care Physicians is seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for a full-time position. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will play a key role in supporting internal medicine and primary care services, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality care throughout their visits. As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), you will be responsible for both clinical and administrative tasks, helping to create a welcoming and efficient environment for patients and healthcare providers alike.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients in person and by telephone, providing a positive first impression and ensuring exceptional customer service for all individuals visiting Total Care Physicians.
- Prepare patient charts, maintain accurate and up-to-date health records, and obtain clinical data from patients and their medical histories.
- Inform patients of normal lab and test results, assist with prescription refills, and handle scheduling of appointments and outreach activities.
- Respond to phone calls, triage patient concerns, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff.
- Collect test samples, perform waived laboratory testing, and ensure proper documentation in patient records.
- Follow up with patients as directed to support continuity of care and patient satisfaction.
- Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, order laboratory tests as required, and administer injections and immunizations under the supervision of medical providers.
- Explain common medical procedures to patients and assist healthcare providers during basic examinations.
- Utilize Accountable Care Organization (ACO) tools to help patients access high-value healthcare services and resources.
- Cross-trained to perform both front office and back office duties, ensuring flexibility and comprehensive support for the team.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
- Inventory and manage medical supplies, place orders, and verify receipt to ensure exam rooms and work areas are fully stocked and operational.
- Safeguard patient information by maintaining confidentiality, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and upholding privacy regulations.
- Educate patients by providing information about medications and diet, answering their questions, and transmitting physician orders as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working as a Medical Assistant, with in-depth knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology.
- Strong professionalism, teamwork, and dependability are essential for this role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and medical staff.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and a compassionate bedside manner.
- Proficiency with administrative tasks, electronic medical records (EMR), and general computer skills.
- Availability for some nights and weekends to support extended hours as needed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all legal and ethical standards in healthcare.
- Strong organization, inventory management, and documentation skills.
