Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Job Description
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers and ensuring high-quality patient care. As a key member of the healthcare team at Ammonoosuc Community Health Services, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) assists physicians and mid-level providers in the examination and treatment of patients. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient interviews and obtain vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, accurately recording all information in the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Prepare treatment rooms prior to patient examinations, ensuring cleanliness and readiness of all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Ensure patient privacy and comfort by draping appropriately and positioning instruments and equipment for efficient workflow.
- Assist healthcare providers by handing instruments and necessary materials during examinations and procedures as directed.
- Operate diagnostic equipment such as electrocardiograph (EKG) machines and other routine diagnostic devices, or coordinate with medical facilities to schedule patients for additional tests as needed.
- Perform clinical procedures including venipunctures, routine laboratory tests, injections, and procedures such as ear lavage within the scope of practice for a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- Manage administrative responsibilities, which may include scheduling patient appointments, maintaining medical records such as x-rays, handling secretarial duties, and completing insurance forms accurately and confidentially.
- Utilize tele-triage skills to collect and relay patient information to providers, demonstrating competence in using computer triage templates effectively.
- Participate actively in staff and team meetings, contributing to ongoing quality improvement and team collaboration.
- Perform all tasks in strict accordance with current licensure or certification standards, adhering to established clinical protocols and best practices.
- Adapt to additional responsibilities, hours, and placement within different Ammonoosuc Community Health Services sites as assigned to meet organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and possession of current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification.
- Ability to perform both clinical and administrative duties with accuracy and professionalism.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, providers, and team members.
- Proficiency in operating electronic medical records (EMR) systems and diagnostic equipment relevant to the role.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and providing compassionate care.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work environments and assignments within Ammonoosuc Community Health Services.
