Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and assist patients by greeting them in person or over the phone, and effectively addressing or referring inquiries as needed.
- Prepare patients for healthcare visits by guiding them to examination rooms, providing necessary gowns and drapes, and supporting them in positioning for exams or treatments.
- Arrange examination room instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Verify patient information through interviews, review and documentation of medical history, measurement of vital signs, and confirmation of visit or treatment purposes.
- Support healthcare providers during examinations and procedures by preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic on-site laboratory tests, disposing of contaminated materials, and sterilizing medical instruments.
- Administer medications as directed, authorize drug refills, telephone prescriptions to pharmacies, draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays, perform electrocardiograms, remove sutures, and change dressings as required.
- Educate patients by providing information and instructions regarding medications and diets, and respond to their questions with clarity and professionalism.
- Accurately complete and maintain patient records by documenting examination, treatment, and test results in a timely manner.
- Generate practice revenue by recording billing information for rendered services, completing insurance forms, and responding to inquiries from insurance companies and other third parties.
- Manage inventory by monitoring stock, placing and verifying supply orders, and ensuring examination rooms are well-equipped.
- Keep medical equipment operational by following instructions, troubleshooting issues, performing preventive maintenance, and arranging repairs when necessary.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established standards and procedures, and complying with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Protect patient confidentiality by maintaining strict privacy standards in handling patient care information.
- Uphold professional standards and comply with policies, procedures, and requirements set by local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
- Stay current with medical knowledge and best practices by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, and engaging in professional organizations.
- Enhance the healthcare practice’s reputation by taking ownership of work, accomplishing new assignments, and seeking opportunities to add value to the team.
