Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Position Overview
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role within the healthcare team, providing comprehensive clinical and administrative support to ensure that patients receive high-quality care. As a key member of an internal medicine practice, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for supporting medical providers with both inpatient and outpatient services while maintaining a patient-centered approach. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful patient outcomes and collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations and medical procedures, ensuring a seamless workflow and optimal patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Conduct patient intake by obtaining vital signs, collecting medical history, and accurately documenting information within electronic health record (EHR) systems to maintain complete and up-to-date patient records.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by licensed physicians, following established safety protocols to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and medical equipment, adhering strictly to health and safety regulations to create a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with the broader healthcare team to coordinate patient care, including communicating test results, coordinating lab orders, scheduling diagnostic testing, and obtaining prior authorizations for specific procedures as needed.
- Manage patient referrals by preparing and sending necessary documentation for upcoming referral appointments, ensuring a smooth transition of care between providers.
- Educate patients about their treatment plans, prescribed medications, and recommended lifestyle modifications to promote better health outcomes and empower patients to participate in their own care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in strict accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies when handling sensitive information.
Qualifications
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program is required for this Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) position.
- Demonstrated excellence in patient service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience in managing patient referrals, scheduling appointments and testing, obtaining prior authorizations, and electronically ordering laboratory tests is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is beneficial for efficient documentation and workflow management.
- Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team, maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times.
