The Cardiac ICU Physician Assistant (PA-C) will take a central role in the care of patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery, working directly in a 16-bed cardiac surgery ICU. This advanced practice provider position is structured as a 3-6 month locum tenens contract with an option to extend based on program needs and provider fit. The schedule is designed for work-life balance, with both day and night 7 on/7 off shifts available. All malpractice insurance, travel, housing, and transportation costs are fully covered, making this an appealing opportunity for experienced advanced practice professionals seeking flexibility and rewarding work.
Qualified candidates must hold an active license to practice, be credentialed as a Board Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), and possess a minimum of two years of recent, relevant experience in cardiac surgery critical care. Extensive experience in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is essential for success in this role. Additionally, candidates must hold a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or obtain it within three months of hire.
The Cardiac ICU Physician Assistant (PA-C) will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and other allied health professionals to ensure the highest level of patient-centered care. Tasks will include performing admissions, comprehensive physical assessments, invasive and non-invasive monitoring, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans, and participating in daily rounds. The provider will also be responsible for patient and family education and for ensuring compliance with the latest evidence-based practices and institutional protocols.
