The Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Construction plays a vital role in supporting project management activities for mechanical construction projects in San Diego, CA. This full-time position is designed for individuals with a solid background in construction or mechanical engineering, who have a keen interest in project coordination, quality assurance, and stakeholder management within the mechanical construction industry. As an Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Construction, you will be directly involved in ensuring project objectives are met, processes are followed, and that all work is carried out in accordance with company policies and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the management and oversight of mechanical construction projects, ensuring adherence to safety protocols for all field personnel assigned to the projects.
- Monitor and support field labor productivity, providing guidance and coordinating resources as needed to optimize project outcomes.
- Oversee quality assurance processes and coordinate with various teams to maintain high standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support in preparing project financial projections and reporting, ensuring accuracy and timely submission as required by project stakeholders and company leadership.
- Assist with material and equipment procurement, including tracking inventory and coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and compliance with project specifications.
- Manage and document change orders, collaborating with clients and internal teams to reflect project modifications accurately.
- Foster positive owner and client relations, acting as a point of contact to resolve any issues and keep stakeholders informed of project progress.
- Contribute to project cash flow management, working with accounting and finance teams as necessary.
- Participate in personnel management, supporting the recruitment, training, and development of field staff as required.
- Comply with all operating policies, procedures, executed plans, and programs set forth by the organization.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of construction work-related experience, ideally within mechanical construction or a closely related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with a range of stakeholders including employees, vendors, and suppliers.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic business mathematical functions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a collaborative team member.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret instructions in various formats such as written, oral, diagrams, or schedules.
- Proficient in the use of key computer software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Access, PowerPoint), Bluebeam Revu PDF editing, Vista-Viewpoint (Project Management & Accounting Software), and Quotesoft Estimating Software.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and archive technical data in an organized manner.
