Assistant Grocery Manager Job Description
We are searching for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Grocery Manager to join our team on a full-time basis in Laguna Woods, CA. As an integral part of our grocery store leadership, the Assistant Grocery Manager will work closely with the Store Manager to ensure efficient daily operations, outstanding customer service, and a positive environment for both customers and staff. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about retail management, possess strong organizational skills, and excel in team leadership within a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Supervision: Support the management of store employees, including cashiers, stockers, and department leads. Provide ongoing training, coaching, and motivation to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Participate in performance evaluations, hiring, scheduling, and other key staffing decisions to ensure effective operations.
- Customer Service: Address customer inquiries and proactively walk the sales floor to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. Set an example for excellent customer service, resolve customer concerns, and escalate issues to the Store Manager when necessary.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily store operations to maintain a clean, safe, and organized shopping environment. Monitor inventory levels, assist with product ordering, receiving, and stocking, and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory standards. Supervise opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and the preparation of daily reports.
- Sales & Performance: Collaborate with the Store Manager to achieve sales goals and key performance indicators (KPIs). Track sales trends, stock levels, and customer preferences to enhance store performance. Assist with managing in-store promotions, displays, and product placement to maximize sales opportunities.
- Administrative Tasks: Prepare and maintain accurate reports related to sales, inventory, and employee performance. Support budgeting and financial management activities. Ensure precise record-keeping for employee attendance and other operational logs.
- Problem Solving & Decision Making: Respond to customer and employee concerns with a positive, solution-oriented approach. Take ownership of operational issues in the absence of the Store Manager and support the implementation of procedural improvements as directed by upper management.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year retail management or supervisory experience, preferably in grocery or retail settings.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
- Ability to multitask and adapt quickly in a dynamic, fast-paced retail environment.
- Physical capability to lift grocery, bulk, and produce items several times a day (up to 50 lbs.), stock shelves (typically less than 3 ft.), stand and walk frequently, and bend or twist as required.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer software such as Excel and Word.
- Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to support store operations.
