As an Aerospace Medicine Physician (Flight Physician, MD/DO), you will provide comprehensive medical care within your clinical privileges. This includes diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, health education, and coordination of diagnostic testing and specialty referrals. The role is central to aviation and operational medicine programs, ensuring the highest standards of medical oversight for deployment, occupational health assessments, fitness-for-duty evaluations, and medical clearances. You will also participate in military accession, separation, and retirement examinations, while delivering clinical guidance, peer-review support, and staff education.
Key responsibilities will include performing a full range of physician services in accordance with granted privileges, guiding and instructing other healthcare professionals, and promoting preventive health maintenance for patients. You will order and interpret diagnostic tests, manage specialty referrals, and contribute to staff training and education. The Aerospace Medicine Physician plays a crucial role in supporting Deployment Related Health Assessments (DRHA) and Base Operational Medicine Clinic (BOMC) activities, which include occupational health surveillance, pre- and post-deployment assessments, tuberculosis management, blood-borne pathogen protocols, periodic and mental health assessments, and more.
Your expertise will contribute to peer review processes and support cross-functional clinical operations during periods of increased mission demand. All additional duties are subject to mutual agreement and formal approval. The work schedule is designed to promote work-life balance, with standard hours and a supportive, inclusive environment.
Physical requirements for the role include the ability to perform duties in an aviation setting, which may involve working around aircraft, extended periods of standing or walking, and responding to emergency situations. - Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an accredited internship and residency program.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted medical license in the United States.
- Board certification as required.
- Minimum of 12 months of experience in occupational medicine or flight and operational medicine within the past 36 months.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Physical capability to perform duties in an aviation medical environment, including meeting medical, vision, hearing, and physical fitness standards.
- Experienced in aerospace, flight, or operational medicine.
