Accounts Payable Specialist (Construction AP) Job OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Specialist with expertise in construction accounting to join our team on a full-time basis in San Diego, CA. This role is vital in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of accounts payable functions for a leading commercial construction general contractor. The Accounts Payable Specialist will work closely with the accounting department, supporting the company's commitment to maintaining excellent relationships with vendors and subcontractors by meeting all payment obligations efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Process timely and accurate entry of vendor and subcontractor invoices into the accounting system.
- Reconcile vendor statements, ensuring all accounts are up-to-date and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
- Respond to vendor inquiries, providing excellent customer service and ensuring clear communication.
- Route all invoices to the appropriate parties for approval and ensure they are properly indexed in the paperless system.
- Support the accounting team with other tasks and special projects as needed, contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in construction accounting or accounts payable is required, preferably within the construction industry.
- Thorough understanding of accounts payable principles, including handling subcontractor, trade, and purchase order processes specific to construction.
- Working knowledge of California Preliminary Notices and Lien Releases, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, and experience with Sage Timberline and Sage Paperless is highly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously within deadlines.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills when interacting with vendors, subcontractors, and team members.
