Academic Tutor
Openwork is seeking motivated and compassionate individuals for the role of Academic Tutor. As an Academic Tutor, you will provide essential academic coaching and tutoring to students, particularly those ages 14 to 21 who are in or have aged out of foster care. Academic Tutor - Summary
- Provide individualized and small group academic tutoring to students ages 14–21, especially those with foster care backgrounds.
- Support students in core academic subjects like math, science, and language arts.
- Guide students in developing effective study habits, organizational skills, and time management strategies.
- Foster positive relationships and serve as a role model for academic and personal growth.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and student progress to ensure program quality.
- Participate in ongoing training, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions tailored to each student’s needs.
- Assist students with homework, school assignments, and preparation for assessments.
- Coach students to enhance executive functioning skills, including organization and time management.
- Document and report student progress, attendance, and required program assessments in a timely manner.
- Build trust and rapport with students from diverse backgrounds, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Attend mandatory training sessions, staff meetings, and program events to stay current on best practices.
- Travel to various assigned tutoring locations as needed to meet program requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; candidates with relevant college coursework will be considered.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience tutoring core academic subjects required.
- Experience with higher-level math, science, and language arts is strongly preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working with youth ages 14 and older required.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance are required for travel between sites.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Teams.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and varying student needs.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a passion for helping youth succeed.
